TR&HC Education Scholarships

TR&HC Announces 2017& Scholarship Recipients

Tryon Riding & Hunt Club recently marked its 35th year of awarding educational scholarships to area students. The club's first scholarship was introduced in 1982 through the Polk County Community Foundation. That scholarship continues to be funded by TR&HC and administered by PCCF today.

In 1996, two additional annual scholarships were introduced and administered by TR&HC, with the number of those scholarships increasing to five in 2015. Also in 2015, TR&HC began administering a separate scholarship awarded by Tryon International Equestrian Foundation.

TR&HC Announces 2016 Scholarship Recipients

The Tryon Riding & Hunt Club is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2016 academic scholarships. Seven scholarships totaling $10,000 were administered and funded by TR&HC. A separate $1,000 scholarship, created by TR&HC in 1982, continues to be funded by TR&HC and administered by the Polk County Community Foundation.

TR&HC's scholarships were created to honor the organization's mission from 1925: to support our area's general well-being and preserve its equestrian traditions. These scholarships are awarded to students who combine academic excellence with involvement in equestrian activities, whether as participants or as volunteers for local equestrian events or organizations.

A Review Committee made up of Tara Boyce, Digit Laughridge, Margaret Freeman, John Vining and Gerald Pack reviewed all applications and conducted interviews with the applicants before making recipient recommendations. For the second year, the TR&HC scholarship selection committee also administered the awarding of a $2,000 scholarship funded by Tryon Equestrian Foundation, the charitable giving arm of the Tryon International Equestrian Center ownership group.

Please join TR&HC in congratulating all of these deserving scholarship recipients.

TR&HC Announces 2015 Scholarship Recipients

Tryon Riding & Hunt Club is proud to announce the recipients of its 2015 educational scholarships. TR&HC has been sponsoring scholarships for area students for 33 years. Its original scholarship was introduced in 1982 and continues to be administered by the Polk County Community Foundation.

Two additional scholarships were created in 1996 and reflect TR&HC's founding mission from 1925, which is to support the area's general well-being and preserve its equestrian traditions. These scholarships are administered by TR&HC and are awarded to students who both excel academically and are involved in equestrian activities.

For the first time, the number of those scholarships was increased to five in 2015 and the amount given totaled $10,000, five times the 2014 total. Congratulations to the following recipients for 2015:

Emily Kocher, a Polk County High School graduate who will attend UNC-Chapel Hill, was awarded $3,000.
Samantha Firby, a Polk County High School graduate who will attend Gardner – Webb University was awarded $3,000.
Emaly Allison, a West Henderson High School graduate who will attend Emory & Henry College was awarded $2,000.
Rebecca Price, a Polk County High School graduate who will attend UNC-Chapel Hill was awarded $1,000.
Brianna Dill, a repeat winner from 2014, who graduated from Polk County High School and is attending USC Upstate was awarded $1,000.
